QUESTION:
Do you think one’s birth chart is an incredibly personal thing to share? After reading the report you gave me, it is disarming how intimate astrology truly is. Literally, no stone was left unturned. It feels like sharing a chart publicly is like standing naked in front of a bunch of strangers.
My Reply:
I think it depends on the person. Everyone is different. Our difference in these three areas, below, will really determine how naked we feel by showing our chart.
- How deeply do we perceive astrological symbols?
- How much are we concerned with individuals vs. how much are we concerned with astrology itself?
- How tolerant are we to exposure?
Someone with low exposure tolerance, and very personal interest in astrology will, unless they have shallow perception of their chart, feel naked by exposing their chart to others. But people with higher exposure tolerance, more focus on astrological theory, or just those with less astrological perceptivity, wont feel exposed at all.
I personally have a pretty high tolerance for exposure (a Capricorn ascendant trait), and am also mostly concerned with astrology itself, not “getting to know people” or “getting known by people.” So, I don’t terribly mind showing my chart. It doesn’t often make me feel exposed.
I also realized something sort of funny. I have shown my chart to so many people so many times, I realized pretty soon that people barely see what you show them. The see what is inside their own head, mainly. So, whether you show them your “nude” or someone else’s, or a photo of a camel… 80% of their reaction is really just what is in their own minds about you anyway, so why bother feeling overly exposed by telling the truth? =)
