The primary traits of Gemini:1

  • “Night-eyes”
  • Delighted by feminine play
  • Fond of song and dance
  • Aware of subtle gesutres
  • Well-mannered: cheerful, generous, and well-dressed.
  • Curly hair & raised nose.

“Night-Eyes”

The Sanskrit here is śyāma (“night”) īkṣaṇa (“glance”). The first word, śyāma, means “to attract.” When things are attracted, they come closer and form pairs. Hence, śyāma, also means “thick” and “condensed” – which, in turn, is why it connotes things that are “opaque” and “dark”, such as the night.

Gemini has attractive eyes, because they (and their brows) are more expressive than most. These eyes tend towards sultry, sleepy, “bedroomy” looks, with relaxed lidding – hidden under a thicker shade of longer lashes.

Gemini “looks for beauty” and “looks forward to the night.”

Delighted by Feminine Play

Gemini likes “games” more than “sports.” It enjoys games that involve words and puzzles – anything in which fun and friendship, not “winning,” is the primary goal. It can therefore often seem flirtatious.

Gemini prefers feminine manners and feminine approaches to doing things. It therefore likes to confer, converse, plan ahead, and proceed with care.

It has the same approach to romance. It is not goal-oriented in sexuality, and enjoys courtship as much as consumation. It is romantically complex and indirect.

Fond of Song and Dance

Among types of “feminine play,” Gemini is particularly good with singing (and music in general) and dancing.

Aware of Subtle Gesture

Gemini communicates well, hearing and speaking not just through words but in symbols, gestures, expressions, and postures. This is why it is notoriously good with languages and math, and is another reason why it is fond of song and dance.

Well-Mannered: Cheerful, Generous, and Well-Dressed

Being fond of play, Gemini likes to smile. It does not like to displease or disappoint. It is generous and does not enjoy fully without sharing their happiness with others.

Gemini likes to dress well. This is related to being well-mannered – it cares about looking nice and not offending others. It is also related to being aware of subtle communication, and to being delighted by feminine behavior (femininity is, by nature, more aware of its appearance).

Hair & Nose

Gemini has thick, dense, healthy hair that tends to curl. Curly hair is a sign of youthful health.

It also has a trademark nose: one that is “raised.” In females this is more likely to raise the tip (creating an inverted arch in the bridge). In males it is more likely to raise the bridge and extend the tip forward.

Gemini’s Sanskrit Name: Yugma

Yugma is related to English words like unity. When two parties join, they achiece yugma. Another very common Sanskrit name for Gemini is mithuna, whichmeans “coupling.” It refers to things that come in pairs, especially romantic couples.

A pair of people, especially a romantic couple, is Gemini’s classic symbol. It illustrates the nature of Gemini well.

  • Couples look forward to the night, and have “love in their eyes.”
  • Couples enjoy playing together for fun, without competition.
  • Couples ike to dance and sing together.
  • Couples understand each other intimately, and therefore converse deeply and often without the need for words.
  • Couples treat each other well, and dress well for each other.
